Range Hood Venting

Mechanical requirements for exhaust ducting on residential range hoods — typically to exterior, with makeup air over 400 CFM.

Definition

What range hood venting actually means.

Georgia Building Code mechanical requirements call for residential range hoods to exhaust to the exterior (not recirculate into the kitchen) for proper indoor air quality. Hoods rated over 400 CFM also require a makeup-air system — a controlled inlet that admits replacement air when the hood is running, preventing negative pressure that can backdraft combustion appliances. Premium range installations (48-inch ranges, restaurant-style hoods) commonly require makeup air.
