Storm Rating

A structural classification indicating the wind speed a building or component is designed to withstand.

Definition

What storm rating actually means.

Storm rating expresses the design wind speed (in mph) a structure is engineered to. Renaissance Patio covers are documented to 175 mph — exceeding Georgia's most-stringent residential wind zones (140 mph coastal). Storm ratings on impact glass, exterior doors, roofing, and patio structures are documented per ASTM E1996 (impact) and Georgia Building Code Section 1609 (wind load). "Storm-rated" without a specific wind speed citation isn't meaningful.
